5 Days Congo Gorilla & Adventure Safari in Congo & Mount Nyiragongo is primarily a primate viewing and Mountain climbing safari. The Safari includes tracking Mountain Gorillas in Virunga National Park which is part of the Virunga Massif with 480 Mountain Gorillas, 2 days hike to Nyiragongo Volcano standing with the world’s largest and most violent lava lake and sightseeing in Rwanda including thrilling lunch in Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Virunga National Park

Upon your arrival in Kigali, you will be met by your Paradise Safaris Guide, and embark on an interesting Kigali City tour. The city tour will take you through Gisozi genocide memorial, where you will have time to listen to the comprehensive history of Rwanda during the 1994 genocide and the events of the massacres, including personal accounts.
You will view the Photographs, video clips, and artifacts of the genocide. After lunch in Kigali, you will embark on transfer to Bukima/Goma via Gisenyi 4hrs drive to Goma plus 2hrs to Bukima.
You will drive to your lodge to check- in, have dinner and overnight at Mikeno Lodge/Bukima Tented Camp/Ihusi Hotel Goma.

Day 2: Hike to Nyiragongo Volcano

After early morning breakfast, you gather at Kibati Patrol post for briefing and eventual set off to the Nyiragongo Volcano climbing adventure. Rising to 3470m above sea level, the Nyiragongo Volcano is part of the greater Virunga massif that straddles from Uganda through Rwanda to Democratic Republic of Congo comprising of eight (8) volcanoes. The Mountain stands with the world’s largest lava lake which is also the most violent with the notable eruptions of 1997 and 2002 of which later destroyed half of Goma town over 20km away.
The hike to Nyiragongo Volcano is not so strenuous and even first-time hikers can attempt it. It takes 4 – 6 hours to reach the summit where you will settle for the overnight in the Mountain Shelter and amazing sightseeing of the red glowing lava lake at night.

Day 3: Descend from Nyiragongo

Wake up for an early morning sightseeing experience including the magical sun set and the clouds in the valleys below. Settle for breakfast after which you embark on the down ward trekking back to the starting point. You enjoy the views of the flora and the lava soils along the way. Connect back to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight at dinner and overnight at Mikeno Lodge/Bukima Tented Camp/Ihusi Hotel Goma.In addition, the altitude of 5200 feet and more means participants do need to be physically fit. The time taken to track the gorillas vary enormously, from as little as half an hour to as much as 7 hours before one returns to camp. Difficulty, however, is not impossibility and coming face to face with the great primates is well worth it! Dinner and overnight. Overnight: Travellers Rest Hotel. Meal Plan (FB).

Day 4: Do Early Morning Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park.

After an early morning breakfast and receiving your packed lunch and enough water, you will embark on 45 km kilometers-2hrs drive from Ihusi Hotel in Goma, 1 hrs drive 30 km from Mikeno Lodge and 5 min walk from Bukima Tented Camp to the Virunga national park headquarters on bumpy roads.
On arrival to the park headquarters, you will join other trekkers for an early morning briefing at 7:30am-8:00am from the Park rangers about the rules to follow whentrekking gorillas in Virunga National Park. After briefing, you will head to Bakima Patrol Post where the gorilla trekking activities start.
The park rangers will lead you into gorilla trekking trails to start searching for the mountain gorillas. After 1-3 hours of trek depending on the movement of the mountain Gorillas in Virunga National Park, you will come closer to the apes. Once up close to the mountain Gorillas, you will be required to wear surgical masks that are provided to you when encountering the gorillas in their natural habitat of Virunga National Park.
You will be allowed to spend one hour with the mountain gorillas and during this time you can decide to sit down watch gorillas carry on with their daily activities of feeding, caring for young ones. You will remain close to the beautiful apes while observing them, photographing and immediately after one hour, you will retire to the starting point and thereafter, embark on drive back to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Day 5: Transfer to back to Kigali.

After a relaxed breakfast you will embark on transfer drive back to Kigali Capital City. The drive distance of 147km to Kigali will not be bore you because you will traverse through beautiful hilly landscapes bearing green tea plantations, by-passing beautiful local Rwandan People when they are heading for their daily activities.
On arrival to Kigali, you will have your lunch and take visit to some nearby craft shops to buy some crafts and thereafter, the driver guide will drive you to the airport for your scheduled flight back home.Take your best photographs having switched off your flash. This whole exercise takes a maximum of 1 hour and then returns to the park offices for your gorilla tracking certificate. Return to the hotel for lunch and some relaxation. Afternoon, take a tour to river for a canoeing trip that lasts for 4-6 hours/visit the exceptional caves around the lake and take remembrances photos with lots of fun poses near the caves then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
